Testimonials, Reviews & RatingsSee What Our Guests Have Been Saying about Their Stay at the Saluda Mountain Lodge
This has got to be WNC best kept secret. They have breathtaking views, lovely rooms and a wonderful staff. We had our10 Year wedding vow renewal service is their courtyard and it was delightful. We have stayed in a couple different rooms, including their honeymoon suite and the rooms have so much character and atmosphere. One of our favorite places to go. I can’t say enough good things about SML!Jim Beaver
We ‘accidentally’ stumbled across this place and we were in AWE!!! This hotel is amazing! ABSOLUTELY love it!! Thanks to your family from our little family, giving us an INCREDIBLE room for the night on our way back to WI from the coast. Thank you! Ps..Us Wisconsinites may or may not have brought snow with us…Larinna Chandler
Had such a wonderful birthday/Christmas here! The owners are as wonderful as they come and they treat you like family. No nearby restaurants were open on Christmas Eve, so they offered to cook dinner for us! Darling rooms and breathtaking views. I’ll definitely be back.Sarah Dennis

“Great innkeepers and well appointed rooms!!”
Stayed for a night to kayak the Green River the next morning early. Check-in was a little slow but the super cute, comfy room made up for the short delay. The BEST part were the s’mores in the “backyard” …Loved it!! The first hotel ever to offer this amenity and it was great. The view of the mountains from the backyard in the evening was great! Best of all the lodge is run by a local family who really care. Highly recommend!!Travelford
“Great Hospitality with a Beautiful View!”
The owners (Wayne and Wendy) are the epitome of hospitality, and it’s obvious they truly love running their lodge. We were only in the area for one night, celebrating our anniversary and were very pleased with our stay. It is an older property but is very well maintained, extremely clean, and nicely decorated with lots of cozy, mountain charm. The view of the Green River Gorge behind the lodge is gorgeous, and we would love to see it in the fall. It is conveniently located near downtown Saluda, a charming little mountain town with a variety of restaurant options and shops. We would most definitely recommend the Saluda Mountain Lodge and hope to visit again!CZiegler04
“Great value at well-kept older property”
Wayne and Wendy are very friendly and own and operate this motel with their family. Their hospitality is wonderful and the rooms are very up to date and comfortable. The two of us were looking for a inexpensive stay for a weekend getaway and this worked well as it is just off I-26 outside Saluda and convenient to the area we were visiting. The lodge has a firepit in the “backyard” where guests can gather after a day of touring, but is otherwise limited on extras (which we didn’t need or want anyway).StillTravelin_11
From the late check-in with cheerful faces and dragging our tired crew into a beautifully decorated room to the restful sleep on the comfortable beds to waking up to a breathtaking view of the mist rising above the mountain ranges behind the lodge, every aspect of our stay at the Saluda Mountain Lodge was fantastic. The sweet family that own/operate the lodge made us feel right at home. Everything was immaculate and cozy. Saluda is a quaint, tiny town with intriguing shops along its main street. On a Sunday morning, food options consisted of Subway or travel 15 minutes up the highway to the next town. But to sit back in the Adirondack chairs and gaze out over those misty mountains in the cool morning air – you just can’t ask for anything more!Jessica F
Couple looking for a one night stay in Saluda. Our entire experience, from booking the room to check out, was fantastic. This place is small business at its finest. Owners are very friendly and accommodating. Stayed in deluxe queen room with door to the backyard. Room was newly renovated, super clean, and “cute” (according to female). Bed was very comfortable. Backyard boasts a BEAUTIFUL view of the Green River Gorge as well as a really nice fire pit. Owners lit fire and brought out supplies for smores at night. At checkout owner suggested several great restaurants and a local waterfall. We will DEFINITELY be back, and would recommend to anyone. Happy Travels!
“A true gem!”
Not your regular roadside or corporately owned place to stay! The rooms are beautiful country cosy style and exceptionally clean. The owners couldn’t be nicer or more accommodating. Highly recommend!!!!
“Nicest owners ever!”
The family owned staff made sure that me and my family were taken care of and went above and beyond in making our stay as comfortable as possible. We were having car trouble and they took me to get groceries and food free of charge and out of the kindness of their hearts. I will always hold a special place in my heart for this lodge. Oh, and the view rocks!
“Clean & Affordable”
We were looking for a clean and affordable place to stay for a last minute trip out of town. Saluda Mountain Lodge fit the bill! The room was very clean. The owners were very accommodating and truly want to make you feel at home. We were glad to support them and if we are ever in the area again, we would definitely stay here again. The view is beautiful also!
My husband and I came up for a show at the Purple Onion and stayed overnight at Saluda Mountain Lodge. We had the same room as last year. My husband reported a problem with the toilet and shower, which was checked out. My husband’s suggestion was to re-check the shower, as he had some problems with it this morning, which he relayed to Wendy. But he is talking about us coming back sometime in the future. While he napped during the afternoon, I went for lunch and when I returned I went to the room located near the fire pit where I enjoyed a nice chat with Wendy and then enjoyed a peaceful afternoon of reading, with some relaxing soothing music playing next door. After the show, when we returned, Wayne built a fire in the pit and we had hot chocolate and s’mores. The full moon, stars and the snow made for lovely end to our evening. Wayne even granted us permission to leave later than the 11:00am check-out time. We weren’t too late leaving this morning, but it was great having that extra time. My only regret is that we stayed only one night. May God continue to bless Wayne and Wendy with this relaxing, peaceful lodge. Thanks to you both. : )
This hotel is an absolute gem. We stumbled upon it quite by accident and it was AWESOME. Beautiful rooms. Tastefully decorated. Sure it IS an older hotel, but look at the craftsmanship done to it. Real wood decor, everything is clean and nice. Would recommend to anyone. Great family business and great family. They truly care about each and every guest.
“Great place to stay or have an event”
My wife and I renewed our vows after 10 years of marriage at the Saluda Mnt L. Wonderful, friendly staff spared no attention to our satisfaction, from the incredible mountain view in their courtyard to the extra special honeymoon room we enjoyed. This is nestled in The mountains of Saluda Nc as the title may indicate. In the age of corporate cookie cutter jones’ chasing, this spot is a nice departure from the rat race to a quaint, clean, beautiful family run business. We really felt like royalty while we were there. We had a ceremony and reception following. Children had plenty of room to play and run around while adults enjoyed food and one another’s company. Cannot recommend this enough for your family vacation or your romantic getaway. The rooms are extremely reasonably priced, and just minute away from local attractions. This is one of WNC’s best kept secrets for sure. Why are you still reading this? Call them TODAY and find out for yourself.

“Oh, what a night!”
Not only was this cozy hilltop perch a great location, it was quiet, peaceful and decorated to the nines! The pics on their website do not lie. The owners are delightful, helpful and above all friendly. A lovely young couple, Wendy and Wayne are doing their best to please leaf peepers and people like me who’d rather travel than deal with holiday shopping at home, LOL. For the space and luxury, the price is REALLY good. It’s only a minute from 176 where the quaint shopping lives with Tryon only a stone’s throw. Great food in little nooks and a thrift shop where I got my favorite leather backpack for a song:-) Apple orchards in the area have stands practically next door to the Lodge. Maggie’s will fix you a great light meal from scratch. I can’t say enough about the Lodge. The views from front or back are breathtaking. Don’t miss this one! If I had not had an agenda for seeing my kids, I’d have hung out here for the week. I’ll be back!

“Sanctuary on the hill”
My wife and I decided to spend one last night in the Saluda area as a last minute decision. We did not expect to find such a charming and welcoming sight as the Saluda Mountain Lodge perched high atop a hill just as we rounded a bend. As it was mid-December the Lodge was wonderfully decorated for Christmas and was a cheerful beacon. We had no idea that the Lodge was to be so charmingly decorated with each room having its own distinctive decor Wendy and Wayne Auman (the lodge owners) were very friendly and assured us that we would have a wonderful and restful night. We did! Definitely planning to return.

“Top of the Mountain!”
The Saluda Mountain Lodge is a family owned property that is a perfect spot and value for visiting the Western Carolina Mountains. The rooms are furnished with quaint and high quality furnishings and every effort is made to offer comfort to guests. Wayne and Wendy, the proprietors offer authentic southern hospitality. Our room had a king bed, microwave and fridge.
“Great getaway destination!”
We stayed at the lodge in the beginning of November. We made it the last week of the leaves changing before they were all brown. The owners of the lodge were very friendly and even started a fire outback in the firepit for us and provided smores making ingredients! The room was very nice the bed quite comfy and a big ol tv. A reat place to spend a nite or two. we will be back to o ziplining next door. Locally owned and operated not a huge corporation! Wayne and Wendy were fantastic!

“Great Weekend at the Lodge”
We stayed at Saluda Mountain Lodge over Veteran’s Day Weekend. We arrived really early and Wayne happily checked us and talked to us for awhile. We unloaded and went behind the building to check out the amazing views. Amazing with all the color changing going on. The room itself is tastefully decorated and included a king size bed, big TV, frig, microwave. Coming from Florida and 80 degree temperatures, it was quite a shock to awaken our first morning to temps in the 20s. We had such busy days we were worn out each evening when Wayne or Wendy would like a fire in the pit our back and set out the fixings for smores. What a nice treat this will be next time we go up and in is not so dang cold outside.

“Awesome place to stay….”
First we would like to say thank-you to the owners Wayne and Wendy, you guys are wonderful. Your hospitality was above and beyond anything we have ever experienced. We can honestly say we have never stayed anywhere that made us feel more welcome as the two of you did. We went there not knowing what to expect and within five minutes after check-in; we knew we had choosen the perfect place. Thank you. I would recommend your lodge to anybody….even to the pickest of travelers. The rooms were immaculately clean, the decor and furniture was just beautiful, the views were breath taking, the fire pit was the perfect touch. Saluda is a beautiful place and we can honestly say the restaurants Wayne recommended was delicious and greeted by the kindest people we have ever met. We thank you and look forward to returning as often as we can. Until next time….Alan and Michelle

“Fall Color Splendor”
Tremendous views, excellent hospitality. A short drive that’s a world away. A must stay for any occasion. Treat yourself, you will be glad you did. Great Christian family to help with all inquiries. Places of interest, things to do, all within a small walk or drive from your door. A lodge by name, your own cottage nestled in the mountains. Wine snobs, leave your ego at home and enjoy the best accommodation in the whole of POLK COUNTY!

“Most breathtaking views and friendliest owners ever!!!”
Really the only hotel we will stay at in western NC, worth the drive just to sit and look at the breath taking views, roast marshmallows, or make smoore’s by the fire, play corn hole or golf in the yard. The owners live there and are so spirit filled Christian people, making any arrangements to help lodge guests find places or things to do in the area. So cozy and quiet, you can see for 50 miles and no houses or buildings in site. Not another place like it on the east coast. Take the time at least to check out the view and meet Wayne and Wendy and I promise you wont want to stay any where else. You wont find a cleaner room any where. Thank you Saluda Mountain Lodge for many wonderful nights just off the interstate!

(If you are a five-star snob, don’t bother stopping here—the love will be wasted on you.)
Here you’ll find genuine Southern hospitality, pristinely clean rooms, and the perfect balance between “what-can-I-do-for-you” fussing and being left blissfully alone.
First I have to comment on the owner/hosts, Wendy and Wayne. As soon as you meet them, you are treated as dear friends. It feels more like you’re visiting your favorite relatives than staying at a hotel. They will stop at nothing to please. When we stayed there, we were treated to s’mores by the fire and sincerely compassionate service.
The view behind the hotel is stupendous. Think “Grand Canyon” of the Blue Ridge. I could’ve sat forever in the Adirondack chairs by the fountain/fire pit, listening to the peaceful music and soaking in the incredible view. Truly soul-healing. (Thank you!)
The lodge may not be the fanciest place you’ve visited, but it will not be surpassed in natural beauty, heart-driven service, and attention to details. If you need a place to rest, think, heal, and allow others to care for you, this is it. I will return every chance I get.
About Saluda–there is much to be enjoyed here! Gift shops, antique shops, pottery, great restaurants, and beautiful mountain views at every curve in the road. Everyone was very friendly. My family will definitely come back!

“Pure Southern Hospitality at it’s Finest!”
Hi Wendy, Wayne, and family! Just wanted to thank you for the incredible stay. You have an incredible lodge. The rooms are clean, the location and view to fabulous, but your warmth hospitality are real stars and will keep us coming back again and again. We loved the personal service, the fun family evening s’mores and bonfire and the heavenly views. I would encourage anyone traveling through this area that wants a clean room at affordable pricing, great views, and above all 5 star personal care and hospitality to stay at Saluda Mountain Lodge. You won’t regret it!

“Southern Hospitality with a View”
We just wanted to tell you how much we enjoyed our stay Sat. evening! We had to leave earlier than expected Sun. morning, but we wanted to say thank you for your kind hospitality! You have such a lovely place, and everything was perfect! The room was so comfortable, clean and pretty!! As for the view, it could not have been more beautiful!!! Except we do want to go back during the fall – the colors must be out of this world from your “backyard”!!!
Thank you again – it was very nice to meet you and we do hope to visit again – SOONER than later!!!

“Use only if You want a relaxing experience”
Nice clean rooms, beautiful view in the back yard, very peaceful, the hospitality could not have been any better. You are quite close to the highway, but when you are sitting in the back yard you feel that you are miles away from the world and the world’s cares. Along with a nice fire-pit and s’mores, who could ask for more? When I stay at a motel or hotel I want to relax and It doesn’t get any better than this.

“More than a room- an overall great experience!”
Best thing about this lodge is the family atmosphere, great personable service. They aim to make your stay comfortable and relaxing. Loved having s’mores by the fire in the evening overlooking the mountains!
“Very hospitable, eager to please, clean, very unique and charming rooms.”
We had a wonderful time. Wayne and wendy auman are the owners and they went out of their way to provide us with whatever we needed. All we had to do was ask. This place was great! Very quiet and peaceful. If you’re coming to the mountains this would be a great place to stay. One unique feature of this lodge is the nightly fire pit out back with fantastic mountain views from the rear of the lodge. This is a must see.

“Great for relaxing and soaking in beauty”
Well first I must say this is no ordinary Motel, lodge, or hotel. Wayne and Wendy are the hosts of this lovely place and they go above and beyond to make your stay more than just a stay.
I wanted to take my family on an affordable getaway for a weekend and a friend told me about the Saluda Mountain Lodge. Knowing the weather was not going to be that great this past weekend I bought a game from target so that if we were confined to our rooms We would have something fun to do with the family (Telestrations is an awesome game by the way). The weather was bad but the coziness of this place really made us feel like we were at home away from home. Because of the weather we pretty much stayed at the lodge the whole time and it was quite relaxing, sometimes to do nothing is what we need to recharge.
The rooms are quite roomy and very nicely decorated. I read a review before i went and they suggested to upgrade the room with the back door. I ditto that, even with bad weather, when it was not raining its still an amazing view and relaxing place to read a book or sit by the fire.
I will definitely be back. Maybe if the weather is nice then we will go whitewater rafting.

“Wonderful Time in Saluda”
This was our first time here and we both decided we have found our new favorite place to stay in Saluda. Great location with an amazing view of the mountains. Wayne and Wendy (owners) were so friendly and personable. Our room was very clean, cozy and we loved the decor. We will definately be back again and again and again!! Thanks Wayne and Wendy.

“great location – great folks”
We have stayed 2 times at the Saluda Mtn Lodge. Both times have been great. Wayne and Wendy are wonderful hosts and even had s’mores at night over the fire pit. Our kids – 14 and 11 – also enjoyed staying here. Lastly, the view was amazing from our back door!! We will return.

“Spotless family owned hotel”
We stayed at this hotel on July 12, 2013. All the hotels on I-26 we had checked on were full due to a conference. It was getting late and we were very tired. I saw a billboard for Saluda Mountain Lodge and called. The gentleman on the phone was so nice. He agreed to hold a room for us. When we arrived, we found the hotel to be spotless. Our room was decorated in a country style and so adorable! There was a welcoming fire going on the patio of the overlook surrounded by rockers.
This hotel is a welcome change from the big business hotel chains!!
We had a very nice, comfortable room with king bed. There was a door out the back to the beautiful view of the mountains. We enjoyed snacks in the patio area. Wendy, the owner came out to talk with us & was very personable & informative. This was our second stay & will stay there again when in the area. We were there for a family reunion.

This isn’t a 5 star resort by any means, but it is your standard motel with a few extra perks that make it outstanding. The room was very clean and comfortable; although the bathroom was tiny I’d say the room itself was a bit larger than your standard hotel room. There is no view from the room, however, it is definitely worth the inexpensive upgrade to a room with a back door leading out to the common area that features a beautiful view with comfortable seating and a fire pit where the makings for s’mores are provided in the evenings. The owners are very kind and personable and it’s obvious they go the extra mile for their guests. The location is great for hiking and tubing/rafting as well as hitting up downtown Saluda for good restaurants. Highly recommended.

My family has a mountain home in Saluda and occasionally we need additional room for large gatherings. My husband and my two daughters stayed at Saluda Mountain Lodge a couple of weekends ago and were so pleased. It was very clean, the owner was helpful and kind and the overall experience was great. I would definitely recommend it – and am glad to be a supporter of a small, locally owned business rather than a large corporate chain.

Great Lodge to stay. Wendy and her husband Wayne were so pleasant and great to talk to. Beautiful view of the Blue Ridge and felt safe being there up in the mountains. We sat and chatted one night, and had a lot in common. We would go back there again. They have a great fireplace in the back and just sit back and put your feet up. Can’t wait to go back again, hopefully next year.

“The Best Place To Stay In Western NC!”
Stayed here for a couple of days while visiting friends and family in western NC. This is a cozy, quiet and beautiful place to stay. Owners Wayne and Wendy make you feel like you are staying in their home… and actually, you are! The rooms are beautiful and meticulously clean, and the view out back of the mountains is beyond breathtaking! The firepit also adds the atmosphere which lends itself to relaxation. They even supply a basket with all the fixin’s for s’mores. How cool is that? If you are looking for a peaceful mountain getaway, or are traveling through western NC do yourself a favor and stay at the Saluda Mountain Inn!

“Amazing Views and people!”
This place is so clean and beautiful! I have never stayed somewhere that I didn’t feel like I had to scrub the room first including many brand name hotels. This place is clean and decorated like someone’s home. The view from the back is so spectacular and the s’mores with the owners and their kids made us feel at home. My daughter and I had a a special night! Thanks so much!
Some of the most gorgeous views you will ever see….and you will be treated by the kindest people! Everything is excellent about this place and you will want to go back! Thank you to Wendy and Wayne who provided the perfect peaceful place to stay when we needed it the most!
“Words can not describe this place”
If you have never been here you are really missing out. Wendy (owner) is the absolute BEST. She makes you feel at home and is always smiling. My husband and I love coming to Saluda, it is our home away from home. I fell like I’m part of them. If you are looking for a place to relax and enjoy yourself and the company of others this is the place to come. The scenery out back is peace of Heaven that God is letting us see on earth. The hospitality is unremarkable, you don’t find that much anymore. And the little things that Wendy does makes it all the more better. S’mores by the campfire, fresh lemonade in the summer and my favorite is the hot cider in the winter. Good people, clean rooms, amazing views, and wonderful memories, what else could you possibly ask for?? Many thanks go out to Wendy and her family for making this place what it is!!! 🙂

The room was clean and beautifully decorated. Out back was a fenced-in area overlooking the gorgeous mountains and gorge. Wendy & Wayne Auman were kind, polite, and very hard workers making sure all is well and everyone feels happy and at home.
“This place was awesome”
nice quiet place to stay for our anniversary. Not only were the rooms nice and clean but the view from outside the back door was breathtaking. Definitely a place where I could be still and listen for God. Wayne and Wendy are wonderful people. We felt truely blessed after stayin at their Lodge
We stayed overnight for a wedding and loved this place! The view is breathtaking, the feel is homey and family oriented, and it was so peaceful, relaxing, and friendly. Wendy and Wayne are wonderful- they make you feel like part of the family. I couldn’t wait to get back from the wedding, sit around the fire pit, and make s’mores (there is a large basket put out with all the s’more fixings at night) The rooms were so clean and cozy. I cannot wait to return for a long weekend to experience all there is to offer up there, zip lining, water rafting, hiking, waterfalls. Amazing experience and I highly recommend this hotel.
